When Moses sent out the twelve spies into the promised land, they saw giants and extraordinary fruit, the promise of a new life God had prepared for His people. Ten out of twelve spies chose to focus on the giants, not the promise.

Now there are many theories who were these giants and how they came about. However, this is not the point of my article.

The point here is that before we access the land God has for us, we will face giants. Furthermore, they may not really be such great giants, but due to our own lack of boldness and confidence, they may seem as such to us.

We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them. Numbers 13:33

These giants were probably real. But God wanted the spies to focus on the fruit, not the giants. However, it’s important we understand who are the giants we need to deal with, to assess their strengths and weaknesses realistically and seek God for the right strategy to deal with them.

Who are the giants rising up against the Church in the 21st century? God has called the Church to advance into the 21st century and rise up to be the reformation and transformation factor that can shift whole nations in the direction of God’s will and Kingdom.

We can name many, but I believe Political (i.e. militant, radical) Islam and Marxism/Communism clearly represent a very existential threat to the free world and the Church committed to the Great Commission.

When we speak of Islam, we need to realize this is not a new giant. This spirit has been around for a long time.

One rough estimate tells us that around 270 million people have been killed by Islamic jihad since the inception of this religion in the 6th century.
This bloody political and religious system, powered by a high-ranking demonic principality related to the cult of Allah, is only seconded by Communism in terms of victimization.

Communism is responsible for over 120 million killings of people in its short 150 year old history.

Abortion may well be the third greatest killer of innocents in terms of organized system of killings such as Islam and Communism.

GIANTS - FUTURE TENSE

The problem with people in the West today is that because western societies have been enjoying relative peace and prosperity in the 60 years after World War II, a whole generation now has disconnected from the dreadful realities of these evils. People don’t even study history anymore as they should. School textbooks are often times nothing but revisionist versions of past events. If parents don’t take the time to educate their children, they may never learn the truth about some of these terrible moments in human history.

People who live in free, democratic countries, have been shielded from the terror of Communism and Islam in the last 60 years. They have lost touch with a very painful reality. Wars are terrible things that are happening somewhere else. Liberal media bias has been working full time interpreting events around us through the lens of the Marxist worldview.

The main issue here is this: these giants, political Islam and Marxism/Communism, are not some past systems who belong in history museums.

They are alive and well, reaching out to steal the hearts and the minds of a whole new generation on the earth. In Russia, over 50% of young people think Soviet dictator Stalin, personally responsible for the death of between 20 and 30 million people, has done more good than bad!

40% of UK Muslims ages 16-24 want Sharia law operating in Britain - a solid proof multiculturalism is not working as some people thought!

At the same time, Barack Obama is poised to become a president of the United States, in spite of the abundant evidence that his past is connected with both Islam and Marxism.

Born-again Christians have to wake up and take the lead in exposing these two giants of the 21st century. These giant demonic systems are deceptive, ruthless and unapologetic in their plans for world domination. We need to forgive the people who advance the causes of Political Islam (jihad) and Communism/Marxism, but we need not to be naive and act as if this is not happening.

We need to educate our young people well in the historicity of these matters, we need to condemn publicly the crimes of these brutal systems from the past, so they can fail in their plans for the future!
